Noah Di Bettschen
Between Vulnerability, Expression and Radical Honesty
Noah Di Bettschen (b. 2002) is a self-taught Swiss artist currently living and working between Zurich and Paris.
His large-scale figurative paintings combine expressive figures with surreal and haunting elements. Poetic fragments, personal texts, quotations and spontaneous streams of thought become integral parts of his visual language.
His work explores the contradictions of the human psyche, vulnerability and the structures that shape our inner world. What began as a personal form of self-reflection developed into a broader artistic exploration of human experience and society.
Writing was his first form of self-reflection. Painting followed when words were no longer enough. Today, image and language remain closely connected within his practice.
Radical Honesty
A recurring element in Noah Di Bettschen's work is the confrontation with vulnerability.
His numerous self-portraits function as emotional time capsules. They deliberately contrast with today's culture of carefully constructed self-presentation. Noah presents himself in raw, vulnerable and sometimes uncomfortable states.
Vulnerability becomes a form of resistance.
He describes his artistic approach as “radical honesty” – a position that is both aesthetic and personal.
His works do not offer simple answers. Instead, they invite viewers to look closer, recognise aspects of their own experience and develop their own interpretation.

Noah Di Bettschen's artistic practice extends beyond painting.
Alongside his large-scale paintings, he works with text and film, exploring subjects including addiction, homelessness, mental health and social isolation.
His work seeks to create awareness, empathy and human connection.
Several of his film projects have been created in collaboration with Swiss television.
A Young Artist in Dialogue with Established Positions

An important early milestone in Noah Di Bettschen's artistic career was his participation in the group exhibition “wild”, organised by IG Halle at Kunst(Zeug)Haus Rapperswil-Jona.
His work was presented in dialogue with works by Andy Warhol and other established artists.
The exhibition brought together different generations and artistic positions, placing the work of the then 20-year-old Noah Di Bettschen in a distinctive institutional context.
